Eric J. Watko, Vice President, Telecoms and Space Systems, iDirect
Eric Watko is Vice President of Telecoms and Space Systems at iDirect, where he is responsible for developing iDirect’s telecom and space strategy. Under his leadership, iDirect is partnering with major satellite and telecom providers to drive greater efficiencies between the telecom, ground and space segments, and develop future end-to-end satellite network solutions.

Mr. Watko has extensive experience in satellite communication networks and space-based processor technologies, having worked in the industry for over 20 years.  His experience in commercial and government satellite and telecommunications industries range from payload system engineering, future satellite communication network architectures, product development, and manufacturing and production. 

Previously, Mr. Watko worked at Cisco, where he was the Sr. Engineering Development and Business Manager. One of his significant contributions was leading the engineering team that developed, delivered, and integrated the Internet Router In Space (IRIS) payload in 22 months on Intelsat’s IS-14.  He was also the Program Manager representing Cisco during the United States government TSAT System Definition Phase.

Prior to working in the telecommunications industry, Mr. Watko continued his research in the field of optical characterization of thin film semiconductor fabrication.
Mr. Watko holds a B.S. in Physics California State University and an M.S. in Physics with a minor in Materials Science from North Carolina State University.
