Occasional-Use in a Fully Networked World
Occasional-use has long been the high-wire act of the satellite business. Whether for sports, news, events, disasters, military incursion or corporate meeting, satellite has been the primary path to get live video, voice and data where it needs to go, calling for high flexibility, dexterity and performance from everyone involved. In an increasingly networked world, however, that primary role is changing. Opportunities for satellite contribution are eroding under the pressure of terrestrial alternatives. The ubiquity of networks and mobile devices means that satellite, where it remains primary, must interface with an ever more complex constellation of systems to deliver value to customers. A fundamental shift in operations and business practice is taking place, and this session brings together customers and service providers to explore what occasional-use is becoming as we transition to a fully-networked world.
